Hi, I'm Waverly
I'm a violinist and writer who's passionate about effecting change through journalism, connecting communities through music, and sparking thought through creative writing. For more information about my résumé, please feel free to contact me.

Co-Founder & Instructor at Luminosa Writers
JUNE 2020 - AUGUST 2020
My close friend Sabrina Kim and I founded co-founded Luminosa Writers. We taught a month-long college essay writing class, two week-long intensive creative writing workshops for middle and high school students, and a weekly writing class for middle schoolers that covered academic, journalistic, and creative writing.

English & Creative Writing Private Tutor
FEBRUARY 2020 - PRESENT
I tutor students in literature analysis and essay writing as well as teach private lessons in creative writing. I either design a tailored curriculum for my students that is entirely independent from their schoolwork, or I work with them on their school assignments.

Violin & Viola Teacher
JUNE 2019 - SEPTEMBER 2019
I teach private lessons for beginning and intermediate violin and viola students. I am available to fill in for weeks when a student's regular teacher is out of town, supplement professional lessons by answering questions and working with students on practice strategies, or prepare lesson material independent from another teacher.

Freelance Violinist
2015 - 2019
I am part of several ensembles that are available for hire. In the past, I've played in church services, private parties, weddings, and a soundtrack for an indie film.

Ensemble Coach
2015 - 2020
I coach young chamber ensembles and orchestra sectionals. I was part of the faculty of the 2019 and 2020 Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra Summer Chamber Workshops and 2019 Presto PACO Summer Chamber Workshop.

Florist
FEBRUARY 2020 - MARCH 2020
I worked as a florist at Fern in Boston, MA. I created custom arrangements, assisted customers by answering questions and giving advice about flowers and plants, and managed online orders and deliveries. I had a great experience working at Fern and was disappointed when my time there was cut short due to COVID-19.

Athleta Sales Associate
FEBRUARY 2020 - MARCH 2020
As a sales associate at Athleta on Newbury Street in Boston, MA, my job went beyond folding clothes and managing sales—in my communications with customers, I embraced Athleta's Power of She campaign, which is centered around empowering women.

Assistant Art Teacher
2015 - 2016
As an assistant art teacher at the Art School of SF Bay, my responsibilities included teaching painting and drawing, answering questions, supervising students, managing parental communication, and handling set-up and clean-up.
Editor-in-Chief
2018 - 2019
I served as editor-in-chief of The Campanile, Palo Alto High School's student-run newspaper, throughout the 2018-2019 school year. My responsibilities included editing articles and page designs, managing a staff of over 50 people, running production, writing editorials, and leading all class periods. The Campanile has a print distribution to over 8,000 people and its website has over 4.98 million hits. It publishes on a triweekly cycle.
Co-founder & Co-president
2017 - 2019
In 2017, I co-founded Paly Chamber Musicians, a high school organization dedicated to chamber music and community outreach, with a fellow violinist and friend. We focused on connecting musicians of all grade levels in small chamber ensembles and collaborated with Palo Alto's Gunn High School to give students the opportunity to collaborate with students from across town. I organized concerts, outreach events, and masterclasses, coordinated rehearsals, and scheduled and led meetings.
Concertmaster
2018 - 2019
Throughout Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra's 2018-2019 season, I led the orchestra as concertmaster. This was my eighth and final year in the organization, and I was honored to have the opportunity to pass down what I'd learned about music and leadership from the former PACO players I'd looked up to throughout my adolescence. As concertmaster, I led sectionals, played in and coached chamber ensembles and masterclasses, performed in gigs, fundraised for the PACO scholarship, and built community within the orchestra.
SPEAKING

FALL 2019
In fall of 2019, I became the youngest guest speaker to present at an Inside Higher Ed Conference. (This decision gained national media coverage from publications including the New York Times, Washington Post, and CBS.)
